Everett W. Nichols, 95, of rural Richland, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Park Place Long Term Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Rev. Bryan Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Open visitation will be at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. Friday and visitation with the family from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, immediately preceding the funeral.

Memorials to Vernon Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2659 Kentucky Ave., Mount Pleasant 52641.

Mr. Nichols was born Aug. 5, 1909, in Stockport, the son of Millard F. and Ella D. Runyon Nichols. He married Viola Hagebock Oct. 18, 1936, in Bowling Green, Mo. She died Jan. 18, 2005.

He was raised in Bentonsport and he graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1928.

He worked on the railroad and then started shearing sheep, traveling Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas.

Mr. Nichols lived and farmed in Richland since 1941.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Nichols of Centerville and Paul Nichols and wife Peg of Richland; four daughters, Joylynn Smith and husband Jerry of Hillsboro, Pat Brem and husband Dave of West Burlington, Teresa Coleman and husband Randy of Mount Pleasant and Tamara Vandevenne of Chariton; nine grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 15 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lena Hughes, Leota Etka and Charlotte Nichols, all of Keosauqua.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, August Nichols; and two sisters, Minnie Wallace and Myrtle Franks.
