Ddeath of Robert HARPER.

Robert HARPER died in this city last night. He had been in failing health for several months, but was confined to his bed only since Saturday. Mr. HARPER was born in Franklin county, Ind., August 17th, 1820, and the earlier portion of his life was spent there. He was married to Deborah A. JENKS at North Manchester, Ind., Sept. 2d, 1848. The wife died in this city December 16th, 1897. One child was born to them, William O. Harper of this city, at whose home the father died. The family came to this county in 1852, and until 1870 its members made their home on a farm in Buchanan township east of this city. They removed to Fairfield in 1875. Mr. HARPER was a soldier of the Mexican war, member of Company G, Third Indiana infantry. He had a wide acquaintance among the earlier settlers of Jefferson county, and there are many friends among them who will grieve at his death. Mrs. Ann WALKER of Winchester, a sister, and the only survivor of a family of seven children, was with Mr. HARPER in his dying hours. Funeral services will be held from the family residence, 105 West Briggs street, this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
