Page 5, col. 4.EARLY SETTLER DIES LAST NIGHT. Mrs. Permelia Bates Passed Away At Home of Niece, Mrs. Charles Spencer, 302 West Hempstead St., with whom she has spent the winter. Funeral will be held tomorrow morning at the Antioch Christian Church. Interment will be in Antioch Cemetery. Mrs. Bates was born July 26, 1834, in Clark County, Ohio, and when a child settled two miles east of Perlee, where she lived until about sixteen years ago. Since that time she has made her home with different relatives. Her first husband, Joseph Mefford, was killed in the Civil War. She later married William Bates who died in 1922. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. D. J. Hurd, and one brother, M. H. Westenhaver, both of Fairfield, and the following children.....
