A.G. SMITH funeral rites held near Fairfield. Son, Roy SMITH. resides in Boone.
"Funeral services for a former Boone Y.M.C.A. secretary, Andrew G. SMITH were held 10-17-1939 at the Lockridge Baptist Church near Fairfield Iowa. Roy C SMITH is a son of Mrs. David CLARK who is a daughter of the deceased, and with Mr. Smith and Mrs. Clark attended the last rites.
Andrew G Smith familiarly known as "GUST SMITH" was born on the SMITH HOMESTEAD two miles north of Lockridge on 9-8-1851. He departed this life at his home in Decatur, Mich 10-14-1939. His age was 88 years and one month and 6 days.
He resided in Jefferson Co until 1912 removing to Boone, Ia., and later to Kalamazoo and Decatur, Mich. where after a short illness he answered the final summons. In early years he was confirmed in the first Swedish Lutheran Church at Four Corners, his mother and father Eric and Catherine SMITH being charter members of that church, the first Swedish Lutheran church founded in the U.S.
He was united in marriage to Marion ALLERDICE 8-4-1874 to which union were born eleven children, ten of whom, with wife and mother, survive him, mourning the loss of an ideal husband and father.
The sons and daughters are: WC SMITH and EA SMITH of Fairfield, Mrs. David CLARK and Roy C Smith of Boone, Mrs. OR THOMPSON of Kalamazoo, Mich., Harry C SMITH of Des Moines, Mrs. LR SANDBURG of Burlington, Mrs. HM WILDER of Ionia, MIch., and David and Ward SMITH of Decatur Mich. Two brothers EA SMITH of Fairbanks Alaska and David of Smiths Mill Minn., and one sister Mrs. Sara MCINTOSH of Mount Pleasant, survive. Thers are also 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren."
