Omer Clingan
March 15, 2005Omer Clingan, 84, of 2306 Glasgow Road, died at 12:50 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Jefferson County Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fell Cemetery near Libertyville, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa.
Mr. Clingan was born March 20, 1920, in Ollie, the son of George Alvin and Gladys May Bottger Clingan. He married Patricia Caroline Hayden June 1, 1944, at Boca Chica Island, Fla. She died Feb. 9, 2003.
He grew up in the Ollie community. The family moved to Jefferson County in 1936.
He served as a flight instrument instructor in the U.S. Naval Air from 1941 until 1945.
Mr. Clingan farmed and owned and operated Coast to Coast Trucking Company. He and his wife owned and operated an agri-business farm supply beginning in the 1950s.
The couple also owned and operated coin-operated laundries and a vending machine business.
He retired from his Clingan Farm Supply business in 1977. He owned and operated Clingan Airway beginning in 1954, which was the Fairfield airport until the new airport was built north of town.
Survivors include one son D.J. Clingan of Fairfield; four brothers, Franklin Clingan of Fairfield, Dean Clingan of Farson, Dale Clingan of Iowa City, and Charles Clingan of Derby, Kan.; and two sisters, Maxine Hoadley Randall of Fairfield and Arlene Bess of Davenport.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lexia Kay Clingan; one son, Collin Jon Clingan; and one sister, Betty Coffin.
