Mrs. Monfort Dies In Sleep
Mrs. Edward Monfort, 87, died in her sleep today at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hicken-bottom, six miles southeast of Fairfield. Coroner Jack Raymond, who was called to the Hickenbottom home, said her death was due to natural causes.
A lifetime resident of this county, Mrs. Monfort had been in usual health yesterday. The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral home where last rites are pending.
Mrs. Monfort was born in Jefferson county Aug. 16, 1868, the daughter of John and Jane Gilbert Mahon. She was married to Edward H. Monfort, September 28, 1892. He preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1952.
Mrs. Monfort was a member of the Congregational church. She is survived by three children, Leonard Monfort, Lockridge; Herbert Monfort, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Hickenbottom. Also surviving are one brother, Emmett Mahon, Ottumwa, and one sister, Mrs. Emily Strubel, Alexandria, Va.
One son, two brothers and four sisters are deceased.
