Eugene KESSEL, 85, of Ollie, died early Monday October 9, 2018, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

EuGene Leoanrd KESSEL, 85, of Ollie, died early Tuesday October 9, 2018, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. He was born July 17, 1933, in Brighton to Leonard and Elsie (LEDGER) KESSEL. His early years were in Brighton and he graduated from Ollie High School in 1951. EuGene married Nancy Ann MOORE January 10, 1953 in Richland. She died May 12, 2011.

He farmed most of his life northeast of Ollie and was an Archer Oil Dealer. He served in the U.S .Army (sic) during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 504, Richland. EuGene was a lifetime member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland.

EuGene is survived by one son Gary "Fuzz" KESSEL (Kaye) of Ankeny, and four daughters: Brenda SCHILTZ (Al) of Broken Arrow, OK, Glenda WIDMER (Tom) and Terry MILLER (Jerry) both of Iowa City and Jody PONTIOUS (Rob) of White Bear Lake, MN, like a daughter, Amy Eakins (Bob) Keota, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Carroll KESSEL (Janice) of Davenport and Dwight KESSEL (Zeeta) of Washington, one sister, Beatrice REYNOLDS of Panora, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, grandson Tim WIDMER, 3 brothers: Harold, Howard and Clyde and 2 sisters, Isabell RICH and Marian WONDERLICH.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday October 12, 2018, at Mother Cabrini Church in Richland with Rev. Charles J. Fladung officiating. Burial will be in Ollie Cemetery (note: in Keokuk Co., IA). Prayers for a Christian Wake will begin at 4 P.M. Thursday October 11, 2018, followed by visitation with the family until 7 P.M.

Memorials to Mother Cabrini Church or Keokuk County Foundation (Hospice) may be left at the church or mailed to Glenda WIDMER, 725 Arbor Drive, Iowa City, Iowa-52245. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
