Mabel SUPALLA

BRIGHTON -- Mabel SUPALLA, 87, formerly of rural Brighton, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1994, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Grinnell (note: in Poweshiek Co., IA).

The funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Prayers for a Christian wake will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. A general memorial has been established.

Mrs. SUPALLA was born in Brighton, the daughter of Robert and Clara WANRUS McCLINTIC. A Brighton area resident all of her life, she graduated from Brighton High School in 1924 and earned a teaching certificate. On June 4, 1932, she married Joseph SUPALLA at East Pleasant Plain. He died in 1969. She taught in rural schools and at Lincoln Elementary School in Washington, Iowa, for 31 years, retiring in 1972. She was assistant postmaster at Pleasant Plain, and with her husband owned and operated a general store and gas station in Pleasant Plain. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, and Pleasant Plain Pioneers.

Surviving are two sons, Richard of Aurora, Colo., Gary of Jensen Beach Fla.; a daughter, Dolores PECK of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois BENDA of Washington, Iowa, and Phyllis NEAL of Brighton. Two brothers preceded her in death.
