JOE SOBASKI VICTIM OF GUN BLAST SUNDAY
No Inquest Necessary; Farmer Was Killed Almost Instantly

Joe SOBASKI, 38, Jefferson county farmer was killed almost instantly soon after 3 p.m. Sunday at his home three miles north of Salina when a shotgun which he was pulling through a fence discharged accidentally and the blast tore through his adomen (sic - abdomen).

An investigation by Sheriff Fred McIntire, acting coroner Dr. Dunkel of Fairfield and Dr. McCreedy of Brighton resulted in a statement that the death was entirely accidental and there would be no need for inquest.

SOBASKI had just returned from a hunting excursion and had placed the gun against a fence while he and his children rounded up several hogs which had broken out of a lot. The job done, the children prepared to return to the house while SOBASKI started to continue with his chores.

He reached for the gun and was pulling it through the fence when it went off. Several of the children witnessed the accident which occurred just across the road from his home. Passing motorists aided in carrying him to the house where he lived only a few moments.

The SOBASKI farm is only five miles south of Brighton.

He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Dorothy KURTZ, and six children, ranging in ages from 2 years to 11. His mother and several brothers and sisters living in the same vicinity also survive. Mrs. SOBASKI has been in poor health for quite some time and is at present recovering from a recent operation.

The funeral will be Wednesday morning. The body is at the Hoskins Funeral Home in Brighton. Other arrangements are yet to be completed.
