BRIGHTON -- A concelebrated Requiem Mass for Gertrude Regina HOOK RUBEY, 80, who died at 5:35 p.m. Sunday at Jefferson County Hospital, will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain by the Rev. Francis E. Bass of Delmar, the Rev. Thomas J. Spiegel of Mount Pleasant and the Rev. Mr. Richard P. Pacha. Burial will be in the HOOK family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Gould funeral Home in Brighton before recitation of the Rosary at 7:45. A Gertrude HOOK RUBEY memorial has been established.
The daughter of Albert Joseph and Mary Agnes PECK HOOK, Mrs. RUBEY was born May 1, 1906 at the HOOK family farm south of East Pleasant Plain. She grew up in East Pleasant Plain, attending Penn Township schools and graduating in 1925 from Pleasant Plain Consolidated High School. Immediately after graduation, she began teaching in elementary rural schools in Jefferson and Washington counties and taught for 16 years before becoming a homemaker, rearing her family, and becoming an active girls 4-H club leader.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly RUBEY of Pueblo, Colo.; two sons, Charles of Fairfield, Eugene of Beaver Dam, Wis.; grandchildren Charles II and Teresa RUBEY, both of Fairfield, Krista RUBEY and Dion JORDON, Dallas, Texas. Her parents, a brother and a son preceded her in death.
Mrs. RUBEY was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Jefferson County Retired Teachers, Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary, Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women, Fairfield Keep Young Club, and Pleasant Plain Pioneers.
