Alex S. GEVOCK, 63, of 317 N. Ave. C. died early this morning. He was found near the Junior High School. Mr. GEVOCK was the former owner of Gevock's D-X Service.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, the Rev. Edward Collins officiating. The Sherman-Eden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Prayers will be offered at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home, followed by a K.C. rosary at 8 p.m.
Mr. GEVOCK was born Jan. 11, 1906, in Jefferson County to Nick and Aggett SUMANUK GEVOCK. He was raised near East Pleasant Plain. On April 14, 1928, he married Dorothy C. BRUTY at St. James Church in Washington. A member of St. James, Mr. GEVOCK was also a member of the K. C. Lodge for 25 years and the Fourth Degree for 10. He was a former committee man at St. James. Mr. GEVOCK farmed for ten years, operated the Firestone Store here for 15 and later owned and operated the service station. In recent years he has been employed by the Washington Community Schools.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Nick of Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Francis (Viola) LAUDERDALE of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Tom (Doris) WEST of Burlington and Mrs. Stan (Kathy) HACKERT of Marion; 17 grandchildren and one brother, Tom of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers.
