Six-Months-Old Farm Tot Victim Of Strangulation

BRIGHTON, Ia. -- Jerome Michael FRITZ, six-months-old Jefferson county farm infant, strangled in his high chair late yesterday afternoon.

The child was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert FRITZ who live in Walnut township there (sic - three) miles south of Brighton and a mile east of East Pleasant Plain.

The child apparently slipped part way out of the chair and strangled on a piece of cloth tied across the arms. The cloth had been placed there to prevent him from falling out.

Mrs. FRITZ said she left her son in the high chair to do some chores outside the house. He was dead when she returned, only a short time later.

The mishap occurred about 5 p.m. The child's father, who works as a carpenter in addition to his farming, is employed in Fairfield. He was enroute home when the accident took place.

Jerome Michael was born last June 17, the son of Robert and Winifred MOELLER FRITZ. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Joseph Robert, 2; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael FRITZ of near Brighton and Mr. and Mrs. Henry PAULY of Ft. Madison, and a great grandmother, Mrs. William ARNDT, near Brighton.

The body was taken from the Omar Hoskins Funeral home to the FRITZ home this afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. Paul C. Wetzstein in charge. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
