Ed Stephenson
February 25, 2005Ed Stephenson, 81, of Eldon, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
His body has been donated to medical science. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 5, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Robert Elgin officiating.
No visitation is planned.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stephenson was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Des Moines, the son of William and Ruth Entwistle Stephenson. He married Kathe Mursch Nov. 19, 1944, in Ottumwa.
A 1941 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he lived most of his adult life in Wapello County.
He worked for the Rock Island Railroad, sold insurance, farmed and was a school bus driver for the Cardinal Community School District for many years.
Following his retirement from farming, he and his wife flea marketed for many years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, communicator for the Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Co. and was a former member of the Eldon Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Vincent Stephenson and wife Christina of Casselberry, Fla.; two daughters, Lois Shipley and husband Robert of West Branch and Linda Manley and husband Doug of Eldon; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma McCreary of Springfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Robert Stephenson; and two sisters, Mary Stephenson and Helen Ray.
