LEROY V HOWARD
Dallas, TX

Leroy V. HOWARD was born October 28, 1920 in Leroy, KS., to parents Jay R. HOWARD and Maltilda (Tillie) NEDELA. He entered into eternal rest June, 22, 2018 at the age of 97 at the Dallas VA Charlie CO Hospice Unit. Roy, as he liked to be called, was a Christian by faith and worshipped at Payne Springs United Methodist Church where he had been a member since 2005. Roy loved life, loved people and enjoyed engaging them in lively conversation. No one was a stranger. Some of his favorite hobbies and past times in younger years were traveling with his family, snow skiing, sailing on Lake Michigan in Chicago, painting and serving lunches with the United Methodist Men to the students of Trinity Valley Community College at the Ark in Athens. He especially loved his immediate family. He was an amazing, loving, and supportive father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his extended family of many nephews and nieces with a special place in his heart for Kim, Roxanne and Mollie B. He lived most of his younger years growing up in Fairfield, Iowa where his family owned a farm. He graduated FHS and moved to Chicago, Ill., Where he entered the U.S. Army and served in W.W.II (sic) in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre including Okinawa and New Guinea. He was honorably discharged in January 1946 and was the recipient of several medals and citations for his overseas service. He then attended Northwest University where he studied accounting and was invited to join the prestigious accounting club. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, loving human being who has left a permanent mark on all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks to all the doctors, nurses, aides and staff at the Dallas VA for the amazing extraordinary care he received during his illness and a special thanks to Karen Jones, close family friend, who got us through some very dark days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rollin, Milton, Elmer (twin), Lon and Rex and sisters Mae, Lula, Wilma and Naomi. He is survived by his daughter Joy SIMMONS and husband Jim of Mabank, son Roy HOWARD, Jr., and wife Kathleen of Temecula Calif., grandchildren Matthew HOWARD of Las Vegas, NV., Natalie HOWARD of Brookings, SD., and Tammy MATHIS VLAZNY of Plainfield, Ill. Funeral services are pending at this time and arrangements are being handled by Williams Funeral Directors of Garland. Final resting place will be in Leroy, KS. August 25th, 2018 with his mother and twin brotheer. Memorials may be made to Payne Springs UMC or Friends of the Animals Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic in Gun Barrell City where he was a frequent "Drop in" visitor while he was still driving.
