DEATHS.

HIATT -- Died 9 mo. 8th, 1887, at his residence near Pleasant Plain, Ia., Samual (sic) HIATT, aged 82 years 1 month and seven days.

He was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, 7 mo. 3d (sic - 30th), 1805, moved to Ohio where he married Susana PAXSON, moved to Jefferson Co., Iowa, in 1841, where he buried his first wife and was married to his second Elizabeth PICKERELL who still survives. At the age of 65 years he was brought to see the need of a change of life and under the efficient labors of Hugh Woody was brought to the Savior. He united himself with Friends and lived a practical Christian life. His voice was often heard in testimony and words of counsel and cheer. At the age of 70 he became convinced that the use of tobacco was a pernicious and idle habit and left it off and continued to abstain the rest of life. The last few years of his life he was deprived of the privilege of attending meeting by reason of a paralytic stroke by which he so lost the use of himself that he was almost entirely confined to the house. His last days were days of extreme bodily suffering, which he was enabled by Grace Divine to bear to the praise of the Lord, and quietly and peacefully passed from this life in the triumph of living faith and having given assurance to his friends that al (sic) was well.
