BataviaJedd William WHARTON, 63, of Batavia, died at 1:53 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
The body has been cremated. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Reece Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mr. WHARTON was born Jan. 6, 1955, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of William and Charlene ATHERTON WHARTON.
He attended Cardinal High School. He worked as a heavy-equipment operator for Douds Stone and was an over-the-road truck driver for Dickey Transport.
His pastimes included riding his motorcycle with friends and spending time with his dog.
Survivors include Deb and her children, Dustin (Faith) REYES, Lisa HAYES and Jack (Marla) HAYES; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his son's mother, Jean CHRISTY; three sisters, Marjorie (Dwight) WESTERCAMP of Batavia, Marie (Harry) CLARK of Fairfield, and Judy FOREMAN of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents: son Travis William WHARTON; and sister JoAnn WHARTON.

Front PageMotorcyclist dies in crash
ELDON - A Batavia man was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon.
At 12:53 p.m. that day, the Wapello County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of an accident in the 4000 block of River Road west of Eldon. The investigation revealed a motorcycle operated by Jedd WHARTON, 63, of Batavia, was traveling east and attempted to pass another vehicle. WHARTON's motorcycle left the roadway and headed toward a field. He was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.
