Doris E. Hartwig, 77, of Madrid and formerly of Selma, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

The funeral was held today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Joe Karge officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds.

Memorials can be made to Mount Moriah Cemetery or Selma United Methodist Church in care of Darla Gorsh, PO Box 143, Millersburg 52308.

Mrs. Hartwig was born May 25, 1927, in Selma, the daughter of Lloyd and Gleda Dooley Davis. She married Charles Stanley Hartwig April 9, 1944, in Selma.

She grew up in the Selma community and graduated from Selma High School.

She and her husband lived in several Iowa communities while her husband was a teacher and school administrator.

She was a homemaker.

The couple moved to Millersburg in 1976. Mrs. Hartwig entered Cedars of Madrid assisted living center in March 2004.

Her pastimes included gardening.

Survivors include one son, Richard Hartwig and wife Ann of Woodward; two daughters, Cheryl Leininger and husband Phil of Ames and Darla Gorsh and husband David of Millersburg; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one sister, Donna Spees.
