FairfieldBetty Roberta SHAW, 90, of Fairfield, IA passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Betty's honor may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Betty Roberta SHAW was born April 3, 1928 in Raydon, England to John and Elizabeth TRICKER BRANCH. She grew up in England and completed her schooling there. It was during WWII where she met Robert SHAW who was there fighting for the Allied Forces. At the close of the war, Robert returned home to get things in order before going back to England.
The two were married in Hadleigh, England on August 23, 1946 and immediately returned to the United States where they began their life together in Fairfield, IA. She spent her time as a loving wife and homemaker until the birth of their children where she added loving mother to the list. She also helped support the family by babysitting and working at the Young America Store in Fairfield.
Robert passed away in 1973 and Betty remained at her home in Fairfield until moving to Parkview Care Center due to declining health. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert SHAW (1973); one daughter, Peggy HICKENBOTTOM (2015); as well as two sisters and one brother.
Left to share her story are her children, Heather (Patrick) O'NEIL of Kenner, LA, Susan NICHOLS of Republic, MO, and David (Janice) SHAW of Richland, IA; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Larry HICKENBOTTOM; honorary sister, Marilyn Ward, as well as many extended family and friends.
