Memorials can be made to Camp Courageous, Hospice of Jackson County or Buckhorn Cemetery. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: 11300 1st Street, Maquoketa, IA 52060.

Arnold was born March 7, 1928 to Peter and Elsie (WEEDE) WEIRUP on the family farm in rural Maquoketa. He married Lois Darlene CAMPBELL June 8, 1952 at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. This last year they celebrated 65 years of marriage. To this marriage was born Rhonda, Peter, Merle, Jeffery and Arnold.

Arnie graduated from Elwood High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) and had to leave the service early to come home because of a family emergency. On May 23, 2013, Arnie went on the Quad City Honor Flight to DC. He and Lois made their home on the family farm where he continued to farm, raise cattle, sheep, pigs and later added horses.

Later in life he and Lois delivered the Quad City Sunday paper and he was a meter reader for Rural Electric Company. Here are words that describe the man Arnie was; hard worker, lived simply, laughed, loved much, spoke kindly, cared deeply, expected little and gave generously. He will be missed by those who called him husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.

Left to share his memories are his wife, Lois of rural Maquoketa; one daughter, Rhonda (Rich) MILLER of Delmar; 4 sons, Peter (Arleen) WEIRUP of Maquoketa, Merle (Deloris Pascarella) WEIRUP of Bettendorf, Jeffery (Cynthia) WEIRUP of Grand Mound and Arnold (Denise) WEIRUP of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren, Charity (Jeremy) McDEVITT, Amy (Kedric) MOORE, Peter PEREZ-WEIRUP, Tyler WEIRUP, Amber (Carlos) HERNANDEZ, Kyle, Krystal and Kayla WEIRUP, Danielle (Erick JOSEPH) ROCK-JOSEPH and Amber ROCK; 7 great grandkids, Michaela (Cody) EADS, Carger GJERSTAD, Kegan, Jaci and Michael MOORE, Dylan McDEVITT and Asher JOSEPH; nieces, nephews and cousins; Leland BACHTELL and many more extended families.
