HE WAS AN EARLY FAIRFIELDIAN. JOHN HENRY SHUFFLETON, who died at Forest Ranch, Cal., the 17th inst., was a member of one of the oldest families of Fairfield. He was a son of SAMUEL SHUFFLETON, one of the first lawyers admitted to practice here, the second clerk of the board of county commissioners, and who managed the sale of town lots when Fairfield was located. He died here in 1846. His wife was killed by lightning a year or two earlier in a house which stood where MRS. C. B. N. LIGHT now lives. This son JOHN came to Fairfield in 1839 with his father’s family. In 1855 he went to California, returning here in 1866. March 27th, 1867, he was married to MISS. MARGARET DEEVER, who survives him. They returned to California two years later. MR. SHUFFLETON was a soldier of the Civil War, serving in a California regiment.
