Johanna SCHRODER was the youngest and last surviving member of her family. She was born in Germany on November 23, 1860 (sic - Nov. 11, according to the church book in Nuekloster, GER) and resided there until 1882 when she with her husband and little child, came to the United States of America. She was naturalized as a citizen May 2, 1888.
On October 24 1879 she was married to Henry BRUDERS and lived happily in this union till he passed away on June 25, 1933. Seven children were born to them, all of whom survive excepting one son, Henry, who died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Lena BAIRD and William BRUDERS of Fairfield, Mrs. Augusta GAGER of Dowagiac, Mich., Earl BRUDERS, Walter BRUDERS, and Mrs. Sylvia AIN of Fairfield, Harold of Fort Dodge, a grandson was raised as a son in her home (sic). Besides the children there are 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. these with many others will mourn her passing.
The family settled at Bloomfield, Iowa on coming to the U.S. and in 1905 they moved to Fairfield where Mr. BRUDERS was an employee at the Iowa Malleable Iron Foundry. Mrs. BRUDERS was a member of the First Christian church of Fairfield and was always interested in its life and welfare. Her Christian faith was a sustaining power in her life.
Mrs. BRUDERS has been failing for some time. She fell and broke her leg last August. For some weeks she has been bedfast and has been tenderly cared for by her children. She passed quietly away at the home of her son Walter where she had been in the recent weeks, on Monday morning January 26 1942 when past 82 years of age.
A loving mother whose first interest in life was her home and children, a friendly neighbor who was known for her kindly ways and thoughtful deeds, she will be missed by a wide circle of loved ones, friends and acquaintances who mourn her passing.
Funeral services were held from the Weston Behner Funeral home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by S. P. Williamson, minister of the First Christian church. The hymns were sung by Mrs. Norvel Switzer and Mrs. S. P. Williamson with Mrs. William M. Stever at the piano. Pallbearers were Albert Sharpe, Louis Pequignot, William Phipps, Henry Quigley, Charles Martin and Ray Kause. The remains were interred in the Fairfield cemetery.
