William E. Timon Jr., 81, of Natchitoches, La., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Christus Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, La.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Blanchard St. Denis Chapel, with the Rev. James Poole officiating. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Northwestern State University Alumni Association.

Mr. Timon was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Natchitoches, the son of William E. Timon Sr. and Arvena Ola Butcher Timon. He married Katherine Muse. They had been married 48 years.

He was educated in the public schools of Natchitoches. He received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Northwestern State University, a master of science degree in mathematics from Tulane University and a doctorate degree from Oklahoma State University.

He was a retired professor of mathematics and department head at Northwestern State University was a professor of mathematics and chairman of the mathematics department at Parsons College from 1965-1973. After Parsons College closed in 1973, he taught mathematics at Fairfield High School for one year.

During his 39-year career, he held a number of visiting professorships which concluded with his retirement from Glassboro State College, now Rowan State University, in Glassboro, N.J. in 1988. He was named professor emeritus at Rowan upon his retirement.

Mr. Timon was named to several honorary fraternities and received a number of fellowships and scholarships, and was listed in numerous biographical references including Who's Who in America during his career.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of Natchitoches; three daughters, Camille Wintch and Cynthia Timon, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mary Ann Hawk of Walnut Grove, Mo.; and three sons, William Edward Timon III of Frisco, Texas, Robert Paul Timon of Albuquerque, N.M., and Howard Timon of Shreveport.
