Marilyn Jane STONE, 84, of Fairfield, IA passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. As were her wishes, a private family burial will be held in Evergreen Cemetery.

Marilyn was born October 11, 1933 at the home place, 3½ miles Southwest of Fairfield. She was the 3rd child of Carrol and Margaret ELDER HANEY. She spent 8 years at Liberty #2 School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1951. She married Gifford STONE on June 10, 1951. They divorced in 1983 but remained good friends. Marilyn had four kids, plus a child God decided he'd keep. She lived all her life in Jefferson County.

She and Gifford had a farm where they raised feeder pigs. After the split, Marilyn raised sheep on her acreage West of Fairfield.

She retired from the Jefferson County Hospital in 1997 after twenty-two accumulated years. Marilyn loved to travel but relied on others to take her as she had no sense of direction away from home, and was afraid of getting lost by herself.

She finally joined a travel club and really enjoyed them. She loved nature, gardening, her flowers, crocheting, some sewing and junk shopping as she called it. She also loved her cats and dogs who were her companions through life.

Marilyn is survived by her four children, Connie (Tom) HAYES, Alvin (Sherri) STONE, James (Karen) STONE, and Lucinda STONE; one grandson, Eric HAYES; two granddaughters, Nichole and Josie; one brother, John (Judy) HANEY as well as many extended family.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Alvin and Bruce HANEY, and her late husband Gifford STONE.
