February 02, 2005Ronald E. Derby, 60, of Mount Pleasant, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Philip A. Borleske, officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6-9 p.m.
Memorials can be made to Hope Haven or a memorial of the donor's choosing.
Mr. Derby was born Jan. 21, 1945, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Harold Sylvester and Velma Irene Norton Derby. He married Deborah Jean "Deb" Meth Feb. 14, 1973, in Kahoka, Mo.
He grew up and attended school in Brighton.
He was inducted into the United States Army Jan. 23, 1962. He served in the 6th Army at Fort Ord, Calif., and the 39th Battalion, 7th Army in Worms, Germany. He received an honorable discharge as a sergeant on March 17, 1967.
Following his discharge from the Army, Mr. Derby worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and the Cargill Seed Company Plant in Mount Pleasant. For 35 years, he was a materials analyst for the former Vega and Heatilator Industries, now Hearth & Home Technologies.
His pastime was fishing on the Skunk River. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1003 of Mount Pleasant.
Survivors include his wife of Mount Pleasant; one son, David Derby and wife Teresa of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Davina Seibert of Burlington; his mother of Brighton; one brother, William Derby of Brighton; and one sister Janet Buck of Ainsworth.
He was preceded in death by his father.
