Samuel Edward KREIDER, 92, of Fairfield, IA passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Sunnybrook Living Care Center if (sic) Fairfield, IA., where he had been for just three days. Memorial services will begin at 2:30 on Saturday, Janaury 6, 2018 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, IA with Pastor Larry Allen officiating. Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Samuel Edward KREIDER was born in Brookville, OH on November 19, 1925 to Fredrick and Edna PEASE KREIDER. He grew up in southern Ohio, where he attended high school.

Upon graduation from Gratis High School, he began his higher education, pursuing and completing degrees from several universities, including Manchester in Indiana and Michigan State. Sam always had a close relationship with God. He began Christian ministry in Michigan and also attended Oberlin College in Ohio, where he completed a Divinity Program and became an ordained minister. He ultimately received his Master's Degree in Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He was a teacher and school principal while also serving as a minister.

While attending Manchester he had met Leona DRAKE. They were married, and began a life together that would last over 60 years, until Leona died in 2007. Sam and Leona began a family and became the proud parents of five children: Sharon, Gayle, Rex, Bonnie, and Jay.

Sam and Leona eventually retired to New Mexico for several years before moving to Fairfield to be closer to their family.

In 2008, Sam remarried, to Betty VANCE KREIDER, from Milton, Iowa. Betty died in 2016.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Leona, his sister, Irma BRATTON, two brothers, Bill and Charles KREIDER, and one daughter-in-law, Sheila KREIDER.

Remaining to honor his memory are his children, Sharon HAMM of Ft. Collins, CO, Gayle (Tom) KIDD of Wilmington, OH, Rex (Shanaz) KREIDER of Libertyville, IA, Bonnie (Kevin) CARTER of Columbia, SC, and Jay (Nancy) KREIDER of Centennial, CO, as well as five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Sam was always humbly willing to serve. He did this through his work at the church, through a career in education, and through daily fellowship with countless individuals over the years. Whenever anyone related a problem to Sam, his first response was usually "What can I do to help?" His sense of humor was legendary, and he always enjoyed both watching and playing basketball and softball.

He was a man of faith and goodwill. His family and everyone who knew and loved him will miss him.
