KREIDER, Leona Mae DRAKE -- Leona Mae DRAKE KREIDER, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, May 18, 2007, in Keosauqua, Iowa.
Born in Royal Oak, Michigan on August 3, 1924, Leona grew up in and around Royal Oak, Michigan. She met Samuel E. KREIDER while they were students at Manchester College in Indiana. They were married July 27, 1945, in Pontiac, Michigan and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2006. They lived many years in various areas of Michigan and Ohio, and later in Arizona and New Mexico. They moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 2001. Leona lovingly assisted Sam in his work as an educator and minister for the Lord. Always a devoted mother to their 5 children, she loved to sing, read, travel, and create handmade needlework linens and pictures. It has been said about Leona that ".... she outshines the stars."
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Forrest DRAKE. She is survived by her husband Sam; her sister Jacqueline MURPHY and brother Richard DRAKE; her 5 children, Sharon HAMM, Gayle KIDD, Rex KREIDER, Bonnie CARTER, and Jay KREIDER; 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren; and all their families.
Memorial services are scheduled at Raymond Funeral Home, 112 W. Burlington Avenue, Fairfield, Iowa, with visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, and funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23. Interment will be in the Church of the Brethren cemetery west of Libertyville, Iowa. The family requests that anyone wishing to make a memorial gift or donation do so in Leona's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Iowa/Burlington or to Hospice of Central Iowa/Mount Pleasant.
