ROGER CRAIG FLEIG
Libertyville

Our hearts are heavy at the passing of Roger Craig FLEIG, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many, who passed away on December 31, 2017.

Roger was born on September 20, 1950 in Fairfield, Iowa to Milburn and Mary (NEWLON) FLEIG. He was raised on the family farm southeast of Libertyville, where he attended Liberty Country School and the Libertyville Elementary. He graduated from the Fairfield High School in 1968. Roger was a member of the Iowa National Guard for many years. He was also a member of the Nisqually Valley Lodge; the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fairfield Chapter; and the Am-Vets.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Carrie FLEIG; his Mother, Mary E. FLEIG of Fairfield; his children, Tracy (Tremaine) TUCKER of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Kristopher (Terasa) FLEIG of Vallejo, California; and Michelle FLEIG (Jauann Williams) of Vallejo, California; seven (7) grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn (Casey) CANNON of Spring, Texas; his brothers, Leonard (Kay) FLEIG of Lincoln, Nebraska and Kaley (Joni) FLEIG of Johnston, Iowa; step-brothers, Rodney (Bev) NELSON of Libertyville and Matt (Amy) NELSON of rural Fairfield; step-sister, Renae (NELSON) LISK of Fairfield and step-mother, Cheriel (NELSON) FLEIG of Stockport and fourteen (14) nieces and nephews.

Roger loved farming and living in the country, where he raised cattle. He was a lifetime wood cutter in the states of Iowa, California and Washington. He was also an expert carpenter and home builder in several states. He worked as a pipefitter on nuclear submarines at Naval Shipyards in the states of California and Washington.

Roger partially completed his bucket list by achieving "certified steam engine operator" where he especially loved the annual trips to Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant accompanied by great friends and frequent visitors, Daryl and Bernie from Roy, Washington.

Rog was generous with his time and wealth and truly enjoyed giving to family, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Milburn FLEIG; grandparents, Leonard and LaRue (FISCHER) FLEIG; and Willis and Mary Margaret (RUSK) NEWLON; an infant brother, Ronald D. FLEIG; and two step-brothers, Stacey NELSON and Corey NELSON all of Fairfield, Iowa.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 5, 2018 at Behner Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will be at a later date. After the service there will be a time for family & friends to gather at the Eagles Lodge (sic - Club/Aerie).

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Chidren's' Hospital and mailed to Carrie FLEIG at 1919 Hemlock Avenue, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
