Miss Elizabeth HERON

At 12:30 o'clock on Monday morning, June 30th, 1919, Miss Elizabeth HERON passed to her reward at the old HERON home, a short distance north of Lockridge. She was born in Clinton county, Pa., December 11th, 1835, and came with her parents to Lockridge in June, 1857. They located on the farm where she died. The HERON family originally came from Ayrshire, Scotland, long made famous because of its association with the life of Scotland's beloved poet, Robert Burns. Deceased was marked by sturdy Scotch character. She was for many years a very active and faithful member of the Baptist church at Lockridge. Many are the people who recall with pleasure and gratitude her deeds of kindness. She was a woman of earnestness, cheerfulness and helpfulness. She was true and loyal in all the duties of life. Her numerous friends greatly appreciated her.

She is survived by one brother, Mr. John HERON, president of the Lockridge Savings bank, and one sister, Miss Theressa HERON, also of Lockridge. The parents, David and Janet (McGEE) HERON, are deceased as are also the following brother and sisters, Mrs. Agnes HERON LOOMIS, David HERON, Mrs. Mary HERON BOVEE, and Mrs. Deborah HERON CARTER.

Funeral services were held in the Baptist church at Lockridge on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. There was a large attendance in spite of the busy season. Pastor Frank E. Weston, of the First Baptist church, Mt. Pleasant, conducted the services. Many beautiful flowers lay on the casket. The pall bearers were William Bankhead, George Davis, Charles Pence, Oscar Peterson and Andrew Lewis. Interment was in the Lockridge cemetery.

Elizabeth HERON Dies

Miss Elizabeth HERON, one of the highly respected citizens of this part of the county, passed away about 1 o'clock Monday morning, her advanced age being the direct cause of her death.

It was about sixty years ago that Miss HERON moved to Lockridge. She has made this her home ever since, during which time she was found to be one of the most energetic and conscientious citizens of the community. For the greater part of this time she was prominent in the work of the local Baptist church and in all other movements for the betterment of the community. She was always kind and courteous and seemed to have something bright and cheerful to say to every passer-by. It is only natural that her many friends feel the loss of this good woman. The community has suffered a real loss.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church and the body laid to rest in the Lockridge cemetery. The pall bearers were Gust Schillerstrom, G. K. Davis, W. L. Bankhead, Charles Pence, Andrew Lewis and Oscar Peterson.

The following obituary was read by the pastor:

Elizabeth HERON was was (sic) a daughter of David and Janet (McGEE) HERON, and was born in Clinton county, Pa., on December 11th, 1835, being in her eighty-fourth year at the time of her death. The family removed to Iowa in Jbne (sic - June), 1857, settling on the farm which she ever after made her home. She is survived by one brother, John, and one sister, Theressa. Agnes, David, Mary and Deborah are the deceased brothers and sisters.
