Dorothy A. WELDAY

Dorothy A. WELDAY, 87, of Fairfield, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Nelson Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marvin Robeck officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville.

Visitation began at noon today at Raymond Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to First Lutheran Church in her name.

Ms. WELDAY was born Dec. 11, 1914, in Fairfield, the daughter of James Wales and Bertha Mae SAUR (sic - SAUER) WELDAY.

She grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1932. She was a graduate of Parsons College and taught elementary and high school for more than 45 years including Birmingham, Burlington and Fairfield. She coached a girls' basketball team during her teaching tenure. Her pastimes included vegetable gardening and teaching music.

She was an active and devoted member of the First Lutheran Church and also was a member of the Altar Guild and was active in the Women of the ELCA. While a resident at the Nelson Nursing Home, she participated in the bell choir.

Survivors include one nephew Jim WELDAY of Minnetonka, Minn.; and her niece, Connie WELDAY of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, James Wales WELDAY Jr.
