James Leonard Brown
January 24, 2005James Leonard Brown, 87, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
The body has been cremated. No funeral is currently planned.
Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brown was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Salem Township in Henry County, the son of Emerson and Annis Belle McDowell Brown. He married Helen Louise Martin Feb. 18, 1939, in Washington, Iowa.
He attended country school, Mapleleaf No. 6 Tippecanoe, and Salem High School.
After high school, he began farming. In 1943, he purchased a farm and farmed that area north of Glasgow until 1975. He then moved to Mount Pleasant and worked for Midwest Old Threshers for two years and then REC Electric Association for two years.
Mr. Brown was a former member of the Glasgow Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Doris Shellabarger and husband Burton of Woodward; two sons, William Brown and wife Betty of Des Moines, and Wendell Brown of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Chester Brown of Mount Pleasant; and one sister, Lena Burkey of Mount Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Neva Chrisinger.
