January 19, 2005 (Wed.)Roger H. Davies, 77, of Milton, died at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bloomfield ,with the Rev. Nancy Pick officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion, S.D.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 7-8 p.m.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 701 N. Iowa St., Milton,52570.
Mr. Davies was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of Thomas and Ruth Halsted Davies. He married Wanda C. Christensen Aug. 6, 1952, in Centerville, S.D.
He graduated from Ipswich High School in South Dakota in 1945 and served two years in the United States Navy.
He earned a bachelor of science degree from South Dakota State College and a master's and doctoral degree from the Univeristy of South Dakota.
Mr. Davies taught chemistry, physics, science, mathematics and vocal music at Hurley and Spearfish high schools in South Dakota.
He then taught college physics at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D., before becoming superintendent of schools in Pukwana and Rosholt, S.D., and at Seymour and Fox Valley schools in Iowa. He retired in 1988.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Chris Davies and wife Cindy of Brighton and Thomas Davies and wife Karen of Vermillion; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
