William ANDERSON, 82, of Richland, died early Thursday July 6, 2017, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield. Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

William Lee "Bill" ANDERSON

William Lee "Bill" ANDERSON, 82, of Richland, died early Thursday July 6, 2017, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

He was born August 29, 1934, in Blakesburg, Iowa to Elmer Erwin and Maude Marie (SIEGRIST) ANDERSON. Bill grew up in Blakesburg, graduated Blakesburg High School in 1952, graduated from University of Northern Iowa with a BA in 1956, and graduated from Truman State University with a Masters Degree in 1969. He married Pauline Louise STORM in Fremont June 21, 1959. Bill's entire adult life has revolved around education; he served in the U.S. Army and taught in their GED program, worked as a teacher and coach in Fremont, Blakesburg, and Pekin High School where he served as teacher, coach and principal. Bill retired from Pekin in 1994 after working 32 years. Some of his awards include Iowa Teacher of the Year runner-up, Outstanding Educator Award, Outstanding Staff Developer, Eagle Scout and chairperson of the Advisory Council for Richland Boy Scout Troop. Bill continued working as Richland City Clerk for 8 years, and volunteered at the Richland Senior Meal Site, was Vice-Chair of the Seneca Advisory Board, the Hospice Board for Keokuk County, received the Warren Coleman Award from the Richland Lions Club and the Governor's Volunteer Award. Other memberships include Pekin Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, the National Education Association, Iowa Council for Social Studies, Richland Lions Club where he held multiple offices, Iowa Archeological Society, Richland Community Club, American Cancer Society, Southeast Iowa City Clerks Association, Richland American Legion Post 504, Richland United Methodist Men, Keokuk County Retired School Personnel and Prairie View United Methodist Church.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pauline, son, Jeffrey ANDERSON (Gayle), Gainesville, FL, daughter Julie CAMPBELL (Paul), Des Moines, 6 grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother Robert ANDERSON (Phyllis) of Trenton, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mary Ellen ANDERSON.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday July 10, 2017, at Prairie View United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathan Tabelisma and Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery with Military Honors by Richland American Legion Post 504 (note: in Keokuk Co., IA). Visitation at Prairie View United Methodist Church with the family present will be 2-5 P.M. Sunday afternoon. Memorials for the American Cancer Society, Prairie View United Methodist Church or the Richland Lions Club may be left at the church or mailed to the family at PO Box 51, Richland, Iowa 52585. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
