Page 2, Column 2WM. DESPAIN, OLD RESIDENT, DIED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON
Wm. DeSPAIN, one of the well known residents of Fairfield, died at his home here yesterday afternoon a few minutes before three o'clock. He was in his 84th year, and had been in poor health for about a year. His last illness has been of about two months' duration.
He was preceeded (sic) in death by several children, but leaves to mourn him, his wife, eight sons and five daughters.
The sons are: Jerry, Chief of Police of Burlington; James of Ft. Madison; George, of Springfield, Illinois; Thomas, of West Burlington; Newton, of Galesburg, Ill.; Peter, Theodore and Joseph, all of this Fairfield (sic).
The daughters are: Mrs. Mary GRAHAM, of Ottumwa; Mrs. C. C. MAXWELL, of Burlington; Mrs. James MANARY, of Fairfield; Mrs. C. S. PICKETT, of Monmouth, Ill.; Mrs. D. E. McINTYRE, of iWsconsin (sic).
The funeral will be held from the residence, 502 West Jefferson street, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. The service will be in charge of Rev. H. A. Mosser, and interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Page 3, Column 3FUNERAL OF WM. DESPAIN HELD THIS AFTERNOON.
The funeral services for William DeSPAIN, who passed away Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, were held this afternoon from the late residence at 502 West Jefferson street. Rev. H. A. Mosser of the Presbyterian church had charge of the services and the remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
William DESPAIN was born January 18th, 1834, in Green county, Ky., the son of John and Lydia HOWELL DeSPAIN. He came to Iowa with his parents when a young man and settled in Henry county, where he was married to Mary Jane RITCHEY, August 25th, 1853.
Three children were born of this union, two of whom died in childhood. The wife died October 29th, 1863.
On October 9th, 1864, Mr. DeSPAIN was married to RACHEL COSE (sic - COX) who with the following children survive him: James Simpson of Ft. Madison; Isaac Newton, of Galesburg; Mrs. C. C. MAXWELL, of Burlington; Mrs. Charles GRAHAM, of Ottumwa; George Marshall, of Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. D. McINTIRE of Crivity, Wisconsin; Thomas Jefferson, of West Burlington; Jerry of Burlington, and Theodore, Peter, Joe and Mrs. James MANARY, of Fairfield. Also sixty_five (sic) grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church which he attended as long as he was able.
The following children preceded him in death: William, Frank, Nellie Glendora, Ray and May.
The following children and their families from away were present at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. George DeSPAIN, of Springfield, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. James S. DeSPAIN and daughter, of Ft. Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Newton DeSPAIN and son George N. DeSPAIN, of Galesburg, Ill.; Mrs. Bell GRAHAM and son Felix and daughter Agnes, of Ottumwa; Mrs. Anna McINTYRE of Crivity, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry DeSPAIN, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. MAXWELL and Mrs. Gerald DeSPAIN, all of Burlington. A brother, Milton DeSPAIN, of New London, was also present.

William DeSPAIN an old resident of this city, aged 84 years, passed away Monday afternoon, at his home in the southwest part of the city, after an illness of two months.
He is survived by his wife, 8 sons and five daughters, seven or eight children having preceded him in death.
The children are: Jerry and Thomas of Burlington; James, Ft. Madison; George, of Springfield, Ill., Newton, of Galesburg, Ill.; Theodore, Peter, Joseph and Mrs. James MANARY of Fairfield; Mrs. C. S. PICKETT, Monmouth; Mrs. C. C. MAXWELL, Burlington; Mrs. Mary GRAHAM, Ottumwa, and Mrs. D. E. McINTYRE of Wisconsin.
Funeral services were held from the home yesterday afternoon in charge of Dr. H. A. Mosser. Interment was made in the Evergreen Cemetery.
