Charles "Charlie" WHITE, 86 of Fairfield, died today, Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Jefferson County Health Center.

Charles "Charlie" WHITE, 86, of Fairfield, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Jefferson County Health Center.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Todd Holman officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home.
In-lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Maasdam Barns, McElhinny House Foundation or First United Methodist Church. Cards and memorials can be mailed to 502 Kingman Circle, Fairfield 52556. Online condolences can be made at www.behnerfh.com.
Mr. WHITE was born April 13, 1931, to Oscar and Evelyn SMITH WHITE in Morton, Minnesota. He married Judy HOLLANDER TOWNE April 10, 1982, at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Fairfield.
Mr. WHITE graduated from Jefferson High School in 1949.
He served in the Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean conflict.
Mr. WHITE was in the grocery business for 48 years. He worked 23 years with United Food stores in Jefferson, Indianola and Greenfield. Later, he joined Easter Foods, managing stores in Oskaloosa and Newton. In 1976, he became the store manager for Easter Foods in Fairfield, retiring in 1993.
Mr. WHITE was a member of Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Retail Merchants Association, Rotary Club of which he was a past president, The Lord's Cupboard, Fairfield Community Fund, VFW, American Legion, and he was a McElhinny House Foundation board member.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
He helped with the restoration of Maasdam Barns and volunteered with many community projects.
His pastimes included wood working, gardening and yard work. He and Mrs. WHITE extensively traveled with the Heritage Club and spent five winters in Texas.
Survivors include: wife Judy WHITE of Fairfield; children Steve (Denise) WHITE of Killduff, Donnita (Gary) COOK of Charleston, South Carolina, Scott (Terri) WHITE of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Lisa WHITE of Schertz, Texas; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters Dorothy, Edna, Ida and Norma; and brothers Wayne, Elmer and Donald.
