William "Bill" S. SIMON Jr., 78, of Wayland, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his home in Wayland (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Funeral arrangements are pending at Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

William 'Bill' S. SIMON Jr.

William "Bill" S. SIMON Jr., 78, of Wayland, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his home in Wayland.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is handling arrangements.

Mr. SIMON was born Feb. 4, 1939, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to William Stephan and Alice Margaret DEL PORTO SIMON Sr. He married Martha J. HAYS Jan. 3, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before retiring to Wayland, Mr. SIMON was a union carpenter specializing in flooring, and managed facilities for Wickes Lumber Company in Indiana and Illinois. He opened a Building Supply Store encompassing three Illinois locations and worked for Weathershed Manufacturing Company, first as a general manager for its Loveland, Colorado, manufacturing division, and as western national sales manager, Eagle Window and Door Northwestern division manager.

He was of the Catholic faith and a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. SIMON's pastimes included fishing and golfing. He was a huge Bronco fan.

Survivors include: wife Martha of Wayland; children Lisa (John) DALLAS of Charleston, Illinois, Stephanie SIMON-FELBER of Elgin, Illinois, Angela (Rob) CHAMBLIS of Lakewood, Colorado, Christopher SIMON of West Virginia, and Wade FRANK of Wayland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and sister Karen CARPER.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and sister Carol DORMANN.
