January 11, 2005Howard J. Greiner, 82, of Washington, Iowa, died today, Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, with the Rev. Ed O'Melia officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
Visitation will begin at noon Friday at Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Friday. Prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a general memorial has been established for charitable organizations.
Mr. Greiner was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Washington County, the son of Charles F. and Clara K. Hammes Greiner. He married Marcella Kaska May 2, 1944, in East Pleasant Plain.
He attended country school in Washington County.
Mr. Greiner farmed most of his life in Washington County.
After his retirement he drove a school bus for the Washington Community School District and the Mid-Prairie School District.
He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Jane Doherty and husband Con of San Francisco, Calif.; Linda Stortenbecker and husband Hank of Amber, Wash.; Nancy Flynn and husband Jerry of Keota; Patricia Norenberg and husband Jay of Pensacola, Fla.; Ann Tweeton and husband Bill of Washington; three sons, Steve Greiner and wife Mary Ann of Washington; Joe Greiner and wife Bette of Washington; and Tom Greiner of Washington; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Harriett Adam of Fairfield; Sister Marietta Greiner of Rockford, Ill.; and Florence Sobaski of Washington; and two brothers, Carl Greiner of Washington; and Wilford Greiner of Washington.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Greiner; one grandson; four brothers, Sylvester, Father Charles, Harold and Don Greiner; and one sister, Sister Delores Greiner.
