January 12, 2005-Paid Obituary-
Susan Ruth Wilk (nee Frankl) gracefully left her body Monday afternoon, January 10, 2005 at 3:12 p.m., at Jefferson County Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15, with time and location to be announced.
Behner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Susan was born in Gauting, near Munich in Germany on January 20, 1915, the daughter of Paul and Elsa (Herzberg) Frankl.
She married writer and lawyer Gerhard H. Wilk February 16, 1949, in New York City. He died August 31, 1990.
Susan had creative and full life. She studied fashion design and designed women's and girls' garments in Rome, Denmark, Sweden, and New York City.
After completing her BS (Music) at Hunter College in 1972 and her MA (Music) in 1974 in Queens College, in New York, she taught piano and recorder.
She moved to Fairfield in 1995 and built her own solar-powered timberframe house on Kiowa Lane.
She contributed several short stories to the recently published book, "Being Our Own Heroes."
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Schmidt-Wilk, son-in-law Martin Schmidt; sister Johanna Kulbach; nieces Lisle Kulbach, Brigida Pesce, Rosemarie Cardarelli; nephew Paulo Frankl, and step-grandson Manuel Werning.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wolfgang Frankl and Peter Frankl; and a sister, Regula (Heka) Frankl Davis.
