Lindley Arthur Bissig, 88, Nelson Nursing Home, 807 W. Taylor Ave., died at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, the home.

The funeral was held today at First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Fell Cemetery in Libertyville.

Mr. Bissig was born June 15, 1916, in Packwood, the son of Gustav and Grace Southwick Bissig. He married and divorced Doris Griffith. He later married Charlotte Lucile Miller April 25, 1954 in Mount Zion Church near Libertyville.

He was raised in Packwood and graduated from Packwood High School then Ottumwa Business College in Ottumwa. He moved to Fairfield in 1935 and worked as payroll manager at Iowa Malleable Iron Company for 51 1/2 years before his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the Fairfield Lions Club, United Methodist Men and Howard Johnson Coffee Club.

Mr. Bissig sang in local musicals and the United Methodist Church choir and barbershop quartets and chorus. His other hobbies included horseshoe pitching, bowling and home repairs. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Robert Lite and wife Linda of Grinnell, John Bissig and wife Mary Beth of Burlington, Jim Bissig and wife Diane of Mason City and Jerry Bissig of Fairfield; one daughter, Betty Smith and husband Robert of Albia; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Susan Mae Bissig.
