Donald Charles Ledger, 76, of 1725 155th St., died at 6:20 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at his home.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, followed by Prayers for a Christian Wake at 6 p.m. Family visitation will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial masses through St. Mary Catholic Church or memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa or Jefferson County Cancer Society.

Behner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ledger was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Jefferson County, the son of Edward Paul and Margaret Peck Ledger. He married Maxine Elmore March 5, 1953, at St. Mary Catholic Church.

He attended Hawkeye No. 8 school in rural Jefferson County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and farmed in the Blackhawk Township area.

He was a member of Packwood Lions Club, Jefferson County Pork Producers, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency County Committee and Iowa Cattlemen's Association. In addition, he served on the L&W Farm Service board of directors.

Mr. Ledger was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, and was a past member of the parish council.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joseph C. Ledger and wife Mary Ann of Fairfield, Michael L. Ledger and wife Patricia of Packwood and Randall G. Ledger and wife Lori of Eldora; three daughters, Rebecca S. Ledger of Pella, Sandra K. Ledger of Cedar Rapids and Debra A. Werner and husband James "Jake" of Fargo, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Lester Ledger and Virgil Ledger, both of Brighton, and James Ledger of Washington, Iowa; and three sisters, Clarabell Vittetoe of Washington, Iowa, Dolores Sieren of Keota and Geraldine Hubler of Durant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Ernest Ledger; and one sister, Maxine Hahn.
