Donald C. VANNOY

Donald C. VANNOY, 89, Douds, died at 2:52 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

The body has been cremated, and arrangements for a memorial service to be held at a later date are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Donald C. VANNOY

Donald C. VANNOY, 89, of Douds, died at 2:52 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at Keosauqua Health Care Center (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Elizabeth Bell and the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Leando Cemetery, with military rites by John Hyson Reneker Post.

Visitation opens at 3 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with family present 5-7 p.m. Masonic rites by Celestial Lodge will follow the visitation.

Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church or Leando Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 14896 Ferris St., Douds 52551.

Mr. VANNOY was born May 28, 1927, near Troy to Charles and Beulah MILLER VANNOY. He married Betty J. BRECKENRIDGE Dec. 31, 1950, in Milton Methodist Church. She died Jan. 27, 2016.

Mr. VANNOY graduated from Pulaski High School.

He was employed by Van Buren County Highway Department as a machine operator. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) as a military policeman in Germany.

He and his wife lived near Cantril until moving to Douds in 1963.

They were active members of Christ United Methodist Church and, with their family, served many years as church custodians.

Mr. VANNOY was an active member and past commander of John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 American Legion in Douds. He was a long-time member, past master and lodge secretary of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, also in Douds. He was also a member of Douds Saddle Club, active in Douds Field Day and former Starlight Lodge No. 350 Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include: sons, Doug VANNOY of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Doyle VANNOY of Douds; daughter, Becky VANNOY of Douds; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie WILLIER of Pulaski.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: brothers, Robert and Clinton VANNOY.
