Maxine TARRENCE, 86, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

Shirley 'Maxine' TARRENCE

Shirley "Maxine" TARRENCE of Fairfield passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Keota, IA (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

As was Maxine's wishes, her body has been cremated.

A Graveside memorial service will be 11:00 am, Monday, April 3, 2017 at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Alan Coffin officiating. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.

In-lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Washington County. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: Randy TARRENCE, 2030 Keokuk Washington Road, Keota, IA 52248 or Pat TARRENCE, 804 South 32nd Street, Fairfield, IA 52556.

Maxine was born on January 26, 1931 in Fairfield to Thomas and Inez (HESTON) BAGBY.

Maxine graduated from Libertyville High School in 1949. On June 18, 1950, she married Lewis TARRENCE at First Christian Church by Rev. Sam Wiliamson. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Lewis passed away March 29, 2002.

Maxine was employed 7½ years as secretary at Harper Brush Works. She also worked at Town Crier and Fairfield Ledger part time when her family was growing up. Maxine enjoyed shopping, eating out with family and friends and an occasional trip to the casino.

Survivors include her son, Randy (Cindy) TARRENCE of Keota, IA; one daughter-in-law, Pat TARRENCE of Fairfield, IA; 5 grandchildren, Shaina (Mike) GEARHART of Hopkinton, IA, Madonna (Jesse) ALLER of Keota, IA, Joe TARRENCE of Keota, IA Jason (Tamyra) TARRENCE of Panama City Beach, FL and Josh (Kara) TARRENCE of La Crescent, MN; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Doris GOWEY of Salina, IA; and two nieces, Shirley SMITH and Deb HANEY.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Inez BAGBY; her husband, Lewis; one son, Rex TARRENCE; one sister, Wilma MOORE; and one niece, Colleen SMITH.
