December 30, 2004Marcella June Scearcy, 79, of Vernon died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 6:30-8 p.m.
Memorials to Vernon Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 21909 Marion St., Keosauqua 52565.
Mrs. Scearcy was born March 30, 1925, in Disco, Ill., the daughter of Solomon and Lucinda Towle Tripp. She married Earl L. Scearcy July 2, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Dec. 27, 1992.
A former resident of the Ollie, Hillsboro and Bonaparte communities, she resided in Vernon for the past 53 years. She was a homemaker. She was employed by Parsons College in Fairfield and for more than 30 years by Fairfield Glove Co. in Bonaparte.
Survivors include four sons, Earl Scearcy Jr. and wife Poni of Vernon, Harvey Scearcy and wife Joann of Libertyville, Michael Scearcy and wife Cindy of Fairfield and Dale Scearcy and wife Roberta of Mount Sterling; five daughters, Darlene Dean and husband Dale of Luray, Mo., Betty Printy and husband Bill of Bentonsport, Mary Sederburg and husband Donnie of Mount Sterling, Alice Dickerson and husband Jay of Keosauqua and Judy Scearcy of Salem; 31 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Norman Tripp and James Tripp, both of Michigan; and two sisters, Ruth Lentz of Washington state and Edith Milner of Florida.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Scearcy; 13 siblings; and two grandsons.
