Leona Grace Thompson, 77, of Salem died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in West Point.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sharon Presbyterian Church near Farmington, with the Rev. Daniel Hemken officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery near Farmington.

Visitation began today at noon at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant; family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials can be made to Sharon Presbyterian Church or Sharon Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 22, 1926, in rural Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Bernard and Nellie Scarff Ericson. She married Richard L. Thompson June 25, 1944, in Salem. He died Feb. 25, 2001.

She was employed by Emerson Electric for many years and retired from Gleason Manufacturing in Fort Madison in 1979. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, gardening and quilting.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Charlotte Spiekermeier and husband Dave of West Point; Audrey Drollinger and husband Tom of Fort Madison, Sharon Sander and husband John of Farmington and Janet Fedler of Fort Madison; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Ericson of Marshalltown and Ralph Ericson of Lockridge; and three sisters, Betty Barr of Mount Pleasant, Evelyn Wieter of Largo, Fla., and Donna Luzadder of Fairfield.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dean LaVerne Thompson; two brothers; and three sisters.
