Ronald E. "Hoov" Hoover, 59, of Lockridge died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at home.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Nicholas Adam officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Visitation will be held until 4 p.m. today at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, and will continue from 5-9 p.m. in the Gathering Space of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., and family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. at the church.

Memorials can be made to the H to O program, Hospice of Central Iowa or St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Mr. Hoover was born Sept. 19, 1945, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Walter Joseph and Pearl Arlene "Connie" DeWitt Hoover. He married Judith Ann Simpkins Nov. 12, 1966, in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1963, he was employed by White's Floor Covering in Mount Pleasant. He then studied to become a mechanical draftsman at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. After receiving his certification, he began a career in the sheet-metal field which spanned more than 35 years.

He was employed by Acco-Babcock-Louden Machinery in Fairfield and Vega Industries in Mount Pleasant. After a brief self-employment, he resumed employment with Vega, after it had become Heatilator, until ill health forced retirement.

Mr. Hoover was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was a former member of Lockridge Lions Club and served for eight years as a Lockridge City Council member.

He coached Lockridge Little League baseball and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kristina Dunning and husband Charles of Washington, Iowa, Jacqueline Canaday and husband Chad of Davenport and Sonja Hoover of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Rodney Hoover of Trenton; three sisters, Kathy Messer of Williford, Ark., Janet Ensminger of Mount Pleasant and Mary Ann Smith of Mount Pleasant; and two grandchildren.
