Lucille Illene HOOTMAN

Lucille Illene HOOTMAN, 91, of rural Floris, died Sunday evening, Feb. 5, 2017, at her home (note: in Davis Co., IA).

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Eldon, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery.

Visitation, with the family present, will be held one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. HOOTMAN was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Davis County, the daughter of Emmett and Jessie CARBAUGH HEWITT. She married Junior Jacob HOOTMAN Dec. 22, 1943, in Leando.

She grew up in Davis County and attended Center No. 5 school in Salt Creek Township and Eldon High School.

She and her husband lived in Ottumwa until moving to their farm in Davis County in 1955.

Mrs. HOOTMAN was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother.

She was a 26-year member of the Ottumwa Farmers Market.

Her pastimes included her flowers, bird-watching, gardening, canning, reading, crocheting and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include: six children, Mike HOOTMAN with Coleen of Bloomfield, Twyla HOOTMAN of Floris, Craig HOOTMAN with Nancy of Ottumwa, Sandra KELLER with Mike of Fairfield, Lance HOOTMAN of Floris, Melanie HOOTMAN of Floris, and a son-in-law Tom ENGEL of Radcliffe; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Charles HEWITT of Monroe and Keith HEWITT of Ottumwa; and one sister, Janice SULLIVAN of Newton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one daughter, Linda ENGEL; one grandson; one great-grandson; four sisters, Flavena MALLORY, Eloise HEWITT, Virginia ASHMORE, and Mary Alyce McSPAREN; and six brothers, Arlo, Roscoe, Donald, Elwood, Rex and Cecil HEWITT.
