Betty HOOTMAN

Betty Jean HOOTMAN, 85, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. May 27 at Sandy Hook Cemetery in Brighton (note: in Washington Co., IA).

A memorial fund has been established for Paws & More Animal Shelter.

Mrs. HOOTMAN was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Brighton, the daughter of Harold and Vera HESSELTINE DeWOLF. She married Charles HOOTMAN Sept. 9, 1950, in Fairfield. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Brighton High School.

She worked in housekeeping at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, and as a para educater (sic) at the Washington Middle School for five years.

During her husband's career in the U.S. Air Force, she enjoyed traveling around the world, seeing new places and meeting new people. She enjoyed dogs and loved to feed the dogs at the McCreedy Home.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael HOOTMAN with Anucha Onongard of Seattle, Washington, Jeff HOOTMAN with Shelley of Iowa City; two brothers, Dean DeWOLF and Gary DeWOLF, both of Washington; and two sisters, Linda GLANDON of Oskaloosa, and Connie HUMSTON of Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one sister, Joan DeWOLF; and one brother, Donald DeWOLF.

Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, is assisting with arrangements.
