Christena SMITH died August 27, at Kansas City, Missouri. She was 77 years 11 months and 4 days old.

Christena SMITH, daughter of Nimrod and Mary BENTLEY was born near Danville, Kentucky September 29, 1824. When quite young, her parents moved to Hancock county, Indiana, where she was married to James G. SMITH, January 24, 1841. She with her husband moved to Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1845. In 1857 they moved to Keokuk county and settled on a farm ten miles south of Sigourney. Here they resided until 1875 when they moved to Sigourney where she has since made her home. The last few years she has spent most of her time with her children. Mrs. SMITH joined the Methodist church when sixteen and has been a member nearly 62 years.

Her husband died in Sigourney, February 25, 1891. Unto this union was born eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Those living are, George H. and John C. SMITH, of Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Nancy PETREE, Kent, Iowa; Dayton W. of Alva, Oklahoma and Oliver T. and Mrs. Mary R. MILLSOCK, of Ottumwa. Geo. H., John C., Mrs. PETREE and Mrs. MILLSOCK were present, at the funeral. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday morning at 10 o'olock, Rev. A. S. Loveall conducted the services. The interment was in the Sigourney cemetery.

Note: Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery, Sigourney, Iowa (note: in Keokuk County).
