Mary GOODEN, 68, formerly of Milton, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Mary Lea SWITZER GOODEN

Mary Lea SWITZER GOODEN, 68, of Milton, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan's Hospice in Ottumwa.

In accordance with her wishes, the body has been cremated. A celebration of life and luncheon will be held at noon April 29 at the Milton American Legion Building in Milton.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Memorials can be left at the service or mailed to the family at PO Box 181, Milton 52570.

Mrs. GOODEN was born March 28, 1948, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Merle L. and Margaret J. STOA SWITZER. She married Bob GOODEN; they later divorced, but remained friends.

Mrs. GOODEN grew up in Atkins, attended St. Stephens Lutheran School and graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1966. She attended college in Kirksville, Missouri.

She worked for Van Buren County Court House in Keosauqua for many years in both the assessor's and treasurer's offices, until she retired.

She supported many community initiatives and the Democratic party. She loved to cook. A few of her activities included: Van Buren County Democratic party treasurer, Milton Legion card club, Cantril jam sessions, Milton Heritage Society, and Milton blood drive.

Survivors include: one daughter, Robin AIRY of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Ryan GOODEN and wife Sandi of Milton; two granddaughters; two sisters, Judy BUHROW of East Dundee, Illinois, and Kathy BANKS of Denver, Colorado; three brothers, Don SWITZER of Cedar Rapids, Darryl SWITZER of Gilbert, Arizona, and Mark SWITZER of West Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; and one brother, Roger SWITZER.
