Alice M. BUCKLAND

Alice M. BUCKLAND, 91, of Fairfield, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 19, 2017, at Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

No funeral is scheduled at this time.

Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting with the arrangements.

Alice Mae BUCKLAND

Alice Mae BUCKLAND, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua.

Per her wishes, no service will be held.

Memorials for Alzheimer's can be mailed to Joan McKEE, 1300 S. Maple St., Fairfield 52556.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. BUCKLAND was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Hartley, the daughter of M. Glen and Lelia Marie RICE BIRLINGMAIR. She married Harold BAUMAN in January 1944 in Centerville; they divorced in 1964. She married E.G. HOPKINS in July 1965 in Clarinda. He died in 1966. She married William BUCKLAND in 1990 in Knoxville; they divorced in 1993.

Mrs. BUCKLAND spent most of her life in Iowa, but also lived in Colorado, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas.

She attended school in Primgar. After graduation, she began nurses training at St. Joseph's in Ottumwa. She received a licensed practical nurse certificate in 1965.

During her nursing career, Mrs. BUCKLAND worked in general hospitals in Clarinda and Centerville and in VA hospitals in Des Moines and Knoxville.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was a 4-H leader for several years, guiding girls through projects in sewing, cooking and home furnishing. After training and receiving her small-plane pilot's license, she joined the "99's," a group for female pilots, and helped organized a number of group meetings in various communities.

Her pastimes included sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader.

Survivors include: three daughters, Joan McKEE with Ken of Fairfield, Norma BAUMAN, also of Fairfield, and Mary BIGGS of Fairfax Station, Virginia; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce HALL of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sons, Kenneth and James BAUMAN; one brother, Marvin BIRLINGMAIR; and one sister, Betty LEVAGE.
