Sharon K. SMITH, 80, of Bloomfield, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at the home of her daughter, in Olds (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bloomfield Christian Church, with the Rev. Jack Knox officiating. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date in the Antioch Cemetery near Fairfield.

A visitation, with family present, will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Bloomfield Christian Church before the memorial service.

Mrs. SMITH was born May 6, 1936, in Fairfield, the daughter of Raymond Milton and Fern Fay GODWIN COOP. She married Richard Duane SMITH May 27, 1956, at the Antioch Church. He died in 2010.

She grew up in the Fairfield area and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1954. She attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Ottumwa, receiving her registered nurse diploma in 1970.

Mrs. SMITH worked as a nurse at Gilfillan Clinic and Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield from 1957-1980 and then worked at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center from 1980 until her retirement in 1998.

She was affiliated with Bloomfield Christian Church and Antioch Church near Fairfield.

Her pastimes playing cards, antiquing, and baking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and nurse.

Survivors include: her children, Rick SMITH of Centerville, Kent SMITH and his fiancee Linda Morrison of Oskaloosa, Susan JOHNSON and her husband, Todd, of Olds, Lafe SMITH and his wife, Melissa, of Owatonna, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; one brother, Bruce COOP of Fairfield; three sisters, Josephine CHAMBERS of Packwood; Colee HOSPERS of Iowa City and Rosie HENDRICKS of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Bernard COOP and Roger COOP.
